Progressive jackpots
As well as the normal payouts, progressive
machines feature a jackpot that keeps getting bigger
and bigger according to how many coins are paid in to
the machine. For every coin that is paid in (on a single
machine, a linked network of machines in different locations,
or by players of the same online gaming software) a
percentage goes towards increasing the size of the progressive
jackpot.
However, it is worth noting that over a given number
of pay cycles the total payback from the individual
machine or network including the progressive jackpot
will meet the manufacturers’ specified percentages
and thus comply with gaming regulations.
On that basis alone you can guess that the return from
regular play is going to be less than on most other
type of slots. Unless you are a top line hunter and
don’t care how much money you lose, this would
be reason enough to avoid progressive machines.
You should always observe the climbing totals. If the
figures are rolling upwards at a speed faster than people
are inserting coins into the slots you can see there
must be other machines in the pool. If those increases
are much faster other casinos are probably linked into
the system.
